HISTORY
Kaufman Enterprises is an award winning McDonald’s Franchise that owns and operates McDonald’s Restaurants on Long Island. In 1960, the company, founded by Irv Klein, Leon and Julian Weil, opened their first restaurant in East Northport. In 1971, after the Weils retired, Irv opened 3 new locations bringing the total to 5 restaurants. The growth had begun.
There were nine stores in the group when Jonah Kaufman joined Irv in the business in 1977. He and Irv continued to add more stores and further innovate marketing, recruiting and retention programs. Jonah and the current management team have been running the business since Irv retired in 1996.
In addition to building an award-winning business, Irv and Jonah have been leaders in the community and the McDonald's franchise family. Both have achieved national status within McDonalds, serving as Chairpersons of the Operators National Advertising Fund ("OPNAD"), an important leadership position elected by other franchise operators. They have also been awarded the prestigious Golden Arch award for outstanding restaurant operations and contributions to the McDonald's system.
Each current member of the Kaufman Enterprises senior management team has been with the company for over 20 years. This is a testament to the commitment to people, growth and reward that is core to the company.
Today, Kaufman Enterprises operates 13 restaurants on Long Island, making them one of the largest McDonald’s organizations in the United States.
